Yachtmaster career paths
Yachtmaster Ocean Path
The Yachtmaster Ocean is the highest qualification that can be achieved in the RYA scheme. It enables the holder to skipper a sailing yacht across any Ocean.
Yachtmaster Offshore path
This pathway explains all there is to know about the Yachtmaster offshore can be seen as your driving licence. The qualification enables the holder to skipper a sailing yacht up to 24 meters 150 miles offshore. For some the qualification can be seen as achieving a standard, an acknowledgement that you are a competent sailor. For others it’s a career choice, as the holder is able to use the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore licence to start a career as a commercial skipper or Superyacht crew.
RYA Yachtmaster Coastal
The RYA Yachtmaster Coastal is the first of three RYA professional qualifications that demonstrate competency on a sailing or motor yacht. The Yachtmaster Coastal is for crew or skippers who want to venture on longer coastal passages.
To become a Yachtmaster Coastal you must have a depth of experience both inshore and on Coastal passages during the day and at night. You learn how to keep your crew and yacht safe at all times. Navigation, weather, maintenance and the ability to lead are all important qualities of a Yachtmaster Coastal.
